Himachal CM Promises Rs 1 Crore and Jobs to Kabaddi Gold Medalists

The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has pledged Rs 1 crore and government jobs to the gold medal-winning kabaddi players Pushpa Rana, Jyoti Thakur, and Bhavna Thakur. During a meeting, the players expressed their concerns regarding the initial prize money offer, which led to a favorable response from the CM. He also announced plans for a felicitation ceremony and emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure in the state. This recognition highlights the significant achievements of these athletes on an international platform.
 

Support for Kabaddi Champions

On Tuesday, Pushpa Rana, the captain of the Indian women's kabaddi team, shared that Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, addressed the players' concerns during their meeting. He assured Rana, Jyoti Thakur, and Bhavna Thakur of a reward of Rs 1 crore each and responded positively to their request for Class-1 government jobs.


Announcement of Prize Money

On Monday, CM Sukhu declared that the three Himachali athletes, who clinched gold in kabaddi at the Asian Games, would each receive a minimum of Rs 1 crore from the state government.


Players' Concerns Addressed

In a conversation with a news agency, Pushpa Rana mentioned that the players expressed their dissatisfaction with the initially proposed Rs 33 lakh reward. The Chief Minister responded by promising them Rs 1 crore each. She noted, "Our primary concern was the Rs 33 lakh offer. Meeting the CM was a wonderful experience; he was very kind and attentive to our issues, making a prompt decision to assure us of Rs 1 crore. We are optimistic about receiving Class-1 jobs as recognition for our achievements. The CM assured us he would consider our request and work on it."


Government Jobs and Sports Development

The Chief Minister announced plans for a felicitation ceremony to honor the players, where they would receive their prize money. He also confirmed that the three athletes would be offered government positions. Those opting out of the Police Department would have opportunities in the Youth Services and Sports Department, allowing them to continue their sports careers while promoting sports development in the state.


Enhancements in Sports Policy

Sukhu highlighted that the state government has made significant improvements to its sports policy, increasing prize money and focusing on enhancing sports infrastructure throughout Himachal Pradesh.


Pride in Representation

Himachal Pradesh Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harsh Vardhan Chauhan expressed pride in the achievements of Pushpa Rana, Bhavna Thakur, and Jyoti Thakur, who represented the Indian kabaddi team at the Asian Games. He stated, "It is a matter of great pride that these young women from Himachal have led the Indian team. Their success brings glory to both the state and the nation. The Chief Minister has assured that the recruitment process for their employment will commence soon."


Kabaddi's Success at the Asian Games

Kabaddi showcased its dominance at the Asian Games, with India's women's team narrowly defeating Iran 37-34 to defend their title, while the men's team overcame Iran 40-34.
