Clooney Voices Concerns Over Trump's Comments

Renowned Hollywood star George Clooney has expressed strong disapproval of former US President Donald Trump's remarks about potentially annihilating "a whole civilization" if Iran did not comply with his ceasefire demands. This statement was made during an event in Cuneo, Italy, where Clooney spoke to approximately 3,000 high school students, highlighting his worries regarding escalating geopolitical tensions. As reported by a local news agency, Clooney remarked, "Some people may think Donald Trump is acceptable. However, if someone claims he intends to end a civilization, that constitutes a war crime."

Clooney's Call for Ethical Political Discourse

He emphasized the necessity of upholding ethical standards in political discussions, stating, "While one can support conservative views, there should be a boundary of decency that we must not breach." Clooney also raised alarms about Trump's views on NATO amidst the Iran situation, saying, "I have concerns about NATO. It has played a crucial role in ensuring safety for Europe and the world. The idea of dismantling such an institution is troubling. Despite its flaws, I believe the U.S. has achieved remarkable things through NATO that have endured over time."

During his interaction, Clooney warmly engaged with the students, greeting them in Italian before switching to English. He humorously noted his understanding of Italian, advising the audience to "be cautious with your words."

Clooney's Political Activism

A long-time supporter of the Democratic Party, Clooney has been vocal about his political views for many years, often citing his upbringing by a journalist father and his marriage to human rights attorney Amal Clooney as influences. In 2025, he gained attention for an op-ed in a major publication, urging then-President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. The Clooney Foundation for Justice, co-founded by George and Amal in 2016, is currently active in 40 countries, focusing on human rights issues.
