FWICE Steps In Amid Don 3 Dispute

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) is preparing to intervene in the ongoing conflict surrounding Don 3, which involves Excel Entertainment's Farhan Akhtar, who is also the film's director, and actor Ranveer Singh. The sequel to the Hindi film was initially announced in 2023 but has faced multiple delays due to production and casting issues. Reports suggest that Singh withdrew from the project before filming commenced, prompting Excel Entertainment to seek financial restitution for their incurred losses. A meeting to resolve the issue is scheduled for May 25, where FWICE will deliberate on the matter. Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit has expressed concern over this emerging trend.

FWICE to Review Don 3 Situation in Internal Meeting

As per various reports, key FWICE officials, including President BN Tiwari, Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit, Honorary General Secretary Ashok Dubey, and Treasurer Gangeshwarlal Shrivastav, will convene to assess the situation and reach a formal conclusion after examining the dispute. In a conversation with Bombay Times, Pandit labeled the incident as a "very serious matter" and criticized the trend. He stated, "You can’t withdraw from a project 10 days before the shoot starts. We will hold an internal meeting first, and then we will make a decision." The producer is worried about the potential repercussions this could have on the industry, emphasizing the need to safeguard the film business from last-minute withdrawals by artists. Pandit reassured that their ruling would prioritize the industry's welfare. Speculations indicate that the verdict may not favor Ranveer Singh.

Background of the Dispute Between Farhan Akhtar and Ranveer Singh

Previously, the disagreement had escalated to the Producers Guild of India, where attempts were made to mediate between the production team and the actor. Excel Entertainment reportedly invested significantly in pre-production for the action sequel before Ranveer's exit. Additionally, the female lead role in Don 3 has also seen a change; Kiara Advani stepped down after announcing her pregnancy and was subsequently replaced by Kriti Sanon.

Last month, a report from the Free Press Journal indicated that Ranveer was willing to return Rs 10 crore to Excel, but the production house is seeking Rs 40 crore instead. The actor has reportedly offered the producers a stake in his upcoming film, Pralay, which has yet to begin production. The outcome of this situation could have broader implications for future projects in the industry.
