Geetika, portrayed by Konkona Sensharma, is a gynaecologist known for her expertise but struggles with interpersonal relationships.
Her abrasive nature leaves her with few allies as she faces serious allegations of sexual misconduct. These accusations not only create friction at her workplace near London but also strain her marriage with Meera, played by Pratibha Rannta.
The claims of inappropriate behavior intensify Geetika's combative nature, leading to hostility towards the investigator Bhargav (Mashhoor Amrohi). She also reacts defensively to Meera's probing questions, revealing her reluctance to justify her actions, especially to someone she expects to support her.
Meanwhile, Meera remains contemplative, troubled by Geetika's apparent insensitivity and the possibility of her guilt.

Accused, now streaming on Netflix, presents an unconventional narrative surrounding the MeToo movement, placing a woman—specifically a queer woman—at the center of the controversy. The film, crafted by Sima Agarwal and Yash Keswani and directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, offers a sharp examination of workplace power dynamics and the damaging effects of doubt on personal relationships.
The film's reversal of traditional gender roles draws parallels with the Cate Blanchett film Tar. While Accused explores how powerful women navigate their roles, it does not delve as deeply into the challenging questions it raises.
The initial segments provide a gripping character study while maintaining suspense regarding Geetika's involvement. However, the introduction of the private investigator Mansoor (Sukant Deo) shifts the tone towards a more conventional thriller, which may indicate a loss of narrative courage.
Character Dynamics and Performances
The film's most impactful moments occur before Mansoor's arrival, showcasing the rawness of Geetika and Meera's relationship. The intense arguments and Geetika's sense of entitlement, juxtaposed with Meera's emotional struggle, highlight a partnership unraveling due to underlying issues.
Despite a supporting cast that includes Aditya Nanda as Meera's colleague Angad and Monica Mahendru as the hospital manager Simran, the film primarily focuses on the dynamic between the two leads.
Konkona Sensharma and Pratibha Rannta effectively portray the contrasting personalities of their characters. Geetika, dressed in assertive pantsuits, exudes ambition and determination, while Sensharma skillfully conveys her character's volatile nature. In contrast, Meera, a pediatrician, embodies a softer demeanor, often engaged in domestic tasks, with Rannta delivering a poignant performance as she grapples with the complexities of her relationship.
The film's conclusion feels rushed and somewhat unconvincing, as it attempts to resolve the tension too quickly. Nevertheless, Accused shines brightest when it navigates the murky waters of uncomfortable truths.
