Excitement Builds for Michael Jackson Biopic Release
Anticipation for the King of Pop's Biopic
Fans of Michael Jackson are buzzing with excitement as they await the release of the highly anticipated biopic about the King of Pop. This film, featuring Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of the iconic singer, is set to premiere this Friday, April 24. Prior to its official launch, exclusive early-access screenings were conducted across the United States. These premium-format showings, available in IMAX and Dolby, occurred just two days ahead of the global release. Social media platforms are flooded with reactions from both audiences and critics. While opinions vary, Jaafar Jackson's performance has garnered significant praise, leaving many fans feeling emotional.
A user shared their thoughts, stating, "Jaafar Jackson delivers an outstanding performance in Michael, making it easy to forget he isn’t the original. The film itself, however, feels somewhat generic. Fans will appreciate the musical segments, but they lack emotional depth." Another comment read, "Critics may not favor #Michael's film, but it’s crafted for the fans. Go watch it without hesitation! It’s truly beautiful!" One viewer remarked, "I just finished watching Michael, and it’s a must-see! While the film may be vague, it’s challenging to encapsulate Michael’s extensive career in detail, especially since he was a star from such a young age. The movie spans about two decades of his life, highlighting key moments. Jaafar Jackson embodies Michael’s essence, from his voice to his movements. Fans will resonate with the portrayal of each significant event."
About the Biopic
The eagerly awaited film is scheduled to hit theaters on April 24, 2026. Interestingly, the project initially aimed to delve into how allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking influenced Jackson’s life and legacy. However, as reported by Variety, a significant portion of the film was edited out after legal representatives for the Jackson estate discovered a clause in a legal agreement. This clause prevented them from mentioning one accuser in the film. Consequently, this led to major rewrites and a postponement of the biopic's release, increasing the budget by an estimated $10 million to $15 million. Lionsgate is reportedly targeting a global box office revenue of approximately $700 million. Whether it will meet these expectations remains to be seen, but if successful, it could become the second highest-grossing music biopic of all time, following Bohemian Rhapsody, which grossed $910 million worldwide.
