First Song from 'Ramayana' Unveiled

New Delhi: The much-anticipated first track, "Jai Jai Ram," from the two-part cinematic adaptation of Ramayana was released on Monday. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita.

This enchanting song features the vocal talents of Shreya Ghoshal and Arijit Singh, with music composed by the renowned A R Rahman and lyrics penned by Kumar Vishwas.

A R Rahman expressed that the goal behind the song was to maintain the essence and sanctity of a prayer while evolving it into a cinematic piece.

The track, described as a heartfelt invocation, merges the spiritual essence of an aarti with a rich cinematic sound. It opens with the wedding of Ram and Sita and showcases scenes of the couple riding through Ayodhya in a chariot, showered with flower petals by the townsfolk.

Rahman emphasized that the song embodies the "simple and powerful repetition of Shri Ram."

Rahman further noted that both Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal infuse their unique emotional depth into Vishwas's lyrics while staying true to the song's devotional core. He hopes listeners will find tranquility and a personal connection within it.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana also features Yash as Ravan, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, and Arun Govil as Dashrath, among others. The film is produced by Namit Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with Yash's Monster Mind Creations.

Malhotra shared that the song reflects the profound and timeless bond people have with Lord Ram.

He stated, "Shri Ram is central to 'Ramayana' and has been a guiding figure for generations through various life stages. 'Jai Jai Ram' stems from this deeply personal connection with Shri Ram."

He added, "While Ramayana is crafted on a grand scale, its true essence lies in its emotional depth, values, and devotion. With 'Jai Jai Ram,' we aimed for our inaugural song to embody that spirit, celebrating Shri Ram not just as an object of worship, but as a protector and source of inner strength."

Vishwas mentioned that the song's language is intentionally kept "simple and direct."

"'Jai Jai Ram' consists of three straightforward words, yet they encapsulate a complete prayer. My aim while writing was not to define Shri Ram, as his essence transcends words, but to convey the relationship every devotee has with him: as our guide, strength, and refuge," he explained.

The first installment of the film is scheduled for release during Diwali.
