Diljit Dosanjh's Stance on Political Protests
Punjabi actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh recently addressed the ongoing protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, which is spearheaded by activist Sonam Wangchuk and CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke. During an Instagram Live session, the Main Vaapas Aaunga star expressed his desire to remain uninvolved in political matters, stating that he is an artist, not a politician. He mentioned that he was not familiar with the details of the protests, which led to varied reactions from his followers online. In light of his comments, CJP has issued a response.
What Diljit Dosanjh Said Regarding the CJP Protest
In his live session, Diljit remarked, "Bro, keep me away from protests and such things. I am an artist. I am not a politician." He acknowledged that not everything in the world is perfect and quoted a verse from the Guru Granth Sahib: Nanak dukhiya sab sansar, so sukhia jis naam adhaar. He further clarified that while his name is often associated with various issues, he harbors no negativity towards anyone and wishes well for all parties involved. He concluded by congratulating both the protesters and those for whom the protest is being held, stating, "I don't know anything."
CJP's Response to Diljit Dosanjh's Remarks
Following the viral spread of Diljit's video, CJP responded by clarifying that the protest at Jantar Mantar is not affiliated with any political party. They emphasized that while Diljit identifies as an artist, the protesters are advocating for reforms in the education system and a brighter future for students, which transcends political boundaries. CJP highlighted that the movement addresses the concerns of students and their families, who are seeking accountability and significant changes in education. They also noted that a large portion of Diljit's fan base consists of Gen Z and students who support his work. CJP stated, "If you choose not to speak in support of the movement, that is entirely your personal decision. However, many hope that the issues affecting millions of students and their futures are not overlooked in a manner that could distress those already anxious about the education system."
CJP also tagged Diljit in a post on X, but the singer has not yet responded.
