Dhurandhar: A Historic Box Office Success and Upcoming Sequel
Dhurandhar's Unprecedented Success
Akshay Khanna and Ranveer Singh's film 'Dhurandhar' has achieved remarkable box office success, a feat typically associated with major superstar films. Despite its Hindi-only release, the movie has made waves by consistently earning over 20 crore rupees for several weeks, surprising audiences and critics alike. The film has also garnered significant appreciation in South India, where positive word-of-mouth and social media buzz have transformed 'Dhurandhar' into a nationwide sensation.
Since its release on December 5, 2025, 'Dhurandhar' has emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. On Wednesday, the producers announced that a sequel, 'Dhurandhar 2', is set to hit theaters on March 19, 2026, coinciding with Eid celebrations.
Distributors and exhibitors from the South have consistently pointed out the strong demand for the film. In response to this organic interest from audiences in South India and abroad, the producers have decided to release 'Dhurandhar 2' in four major regional languages from its premiere.
The sequel will be available in Hindi along with Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, marking a significant pan-India and global launch.
Scheduled for release on Eid 2026, this film aims to reach audiences nationwide while further enhancing Ranveer Singh's global appeal.
Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Aditya Dhar and produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, 'Dhurandhar 2' will face stiff competition from other major releases, including Yash's 'Toxic' and Adivi Sesh's 'Dacoit'.
'Dhurandhar' continues to set records, becoming the first Indian film to earn ₹20 crore or more for 17 consecutive days. Achieving over ₹20 crore for two full working weeks and three weekends is a milestone that even blockbuster hits like 'Dangal' and 'RRR' could not reach.
As it nears its fourth week, the film has surpassed the ₹900 crore mark globally, solidifying its status as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, outpacing 'Kantara Chapter 1' and 'Chhava'.
