I was a ginger-haired, freckled, acne-prone kid from East London. I truly struggle to look in the mirror," he confessed. This critical self-view extended to his ambitions, as he expressed a wish to have been a movie star, stating, "Had I possessed the looks alongside my acting talent, my life might have unfolded differently." His yearning for an alternate reality was highlighted by his admiration for the legendary Rock Hudson, whom he viewed as the pinnacle of film stardom during his formative years.
