Controversy Surrounds Diljit Dosanjh's Film 'Satluj' After ZEE5 Removal

The recent removal of Diljit Dosanjh's film 'Satluj' from ZEE5 has ignited a significant controversy, prompting FWICE President BN Tiwari to question the actor's choices. Tiwari emphasized the importance of artists being mindful of their public image and social responsibilities. He expressed confusion over the film's initial certification, suggesting that concerns should have been addressed beforehand. As discussions continue, the film, which portrays the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, faces scrutiny over its content and the implications of its release. This situation raises critical questions about the responsibilities of filmmakers and the censorship process in the industry.

Escalating Controversy Over 'Satluj'

The controversy regarding Diljit Dosanjh's film Satluj has intensified following its removal from ZEE5 just two days post-release. In light of this situation, BN Tiwari, the President of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), has raised concerns about the actor's choice to engage in projects that frequently generate disputes. Tiwari emphasized that artists must consider their public persona and social obligations when selecting roles. He expressed bewilderment over the film's censorship, questioning why Satluj was initially approved if it was later deemed problematic, suggesting that such issues should have been addressed prior to certification.

FWICE President's Comments on the Controversy

In a recent discussion, Tiwari questioned Diljit Dosanjh's continued involvement in films that attract controversy. He remarked that the actor, who has a significant following in Punjab and internationally, should be more discerning about the projects he undertakes. "It surprises me why Diljit chooses to engage in controversial films. He needs to recognize the implications of such choices. As a superstar in Punjab, he should carefully consider how these decisions affect his image, especially given his vast fan base worldwide," Tiwari stated. He further noted that actors should not select films merely for financial gain but should also acknowledge their responsibilities to society.

Tiwari added, "It is essential for artists to prioritize their duty to the nation over monetary incentives. While I acknowledge Diljit's talent and his responsibilities, he must reflect on these aspects before committing to such projects."

Concerns Over Censorship of 'Satluj'

Tiwari also raised questions about the certification process of Satluj, asking why it was approved if there were subsequent concerns regarding its content. He argued that films with the potential to disrupt social harmony or disseminate misinformation should undergo thorough scrutiny during the censorship process, rather than after their release. He insisted that if the government or censor board identifies objectionable content, these issues should be resolved before granting clearance. Furthermore, he emphasized that once a film has passed the certification process and necessary edits have been made, it should not be halted later, as producers invest considerable resources in bringing these projects to audiences.

Meanwhile, Satluj, formerly titled Punjab '95, is a biographical drama that depicts the life and efforts of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, played by Diljit Dosanjh. Directed by Honey Trehan, the film chronicles Khalra's investigation into alleged extrajudicial killings and secret cremations in Punjab during the 1980s and 1990s, showcasing his unwavering quest for justice despite facing significant dangers.
