Controversy Surrounds Comedian Pranit More Over Rs 370 Biryani Remarks
Comedian's Controversial Remarks Spark Outrage
Following his controversial statement about a Rs 370 biryani during a stand-up performance, comedian and Bigg Boss 19 participant Pranit More has faced significant backlash online. In response to the uproar, he has issued an apology, yet the situation has only intensified. The Maharashtra Cyber Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against More and Gurgaon resident Himanshu Jangra, who made inappropriate comments regarding expecting sexual favors from a date. Additionally, Dr. Sejal Pawar gained notoriety for her comments about laughing at male cadavers. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has now commented on the ongoing controversy.
CM Devendra Fadnavis Addresses the Biryani Controversy
As reported, CM Fadnavis emphasized that while the Constitution upholds freedom of expression, it also includes provisions to prevent its misuse. He noted that unrestrained expression could undermine the dignity and rights of individuals within society. Fadnavis acknowledged that stand-up comedy is a popular form of entertainment but stressed that humor should adhere to social norms and basic decency standards. He stated, "While stand-up comedy is enjoyed by many, including myself, it is essential to respect societal boundaries and dignity in the name of entertainment. Violating these principles is unjust to the audience."
Escalation of the Rs 370 Biryani Incident
This development follows the Maharashtra Cyber Police's recent FIR against Pranit More and others for allegedly sharing obscene and objectionable content. The case is being pursued under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. The individuals involved have been summoned to provide statements to the Maharashtra Cyber Cell as the investigation continues. Furthermore, the National Commission for Women has taken notice of the situation, summoning More and Jangra to appear on June 22. The NCW has also reached out to the Haryana DGP for prompt action regarding the case. Dr. Sejal Pawar, who made inappropriate remarks about deceased male bodies, has also been implicated in the FIR and has issued an apology, which has not alleviated the public outrage.
