Controversy Erupts Over Sumathi Valavu and Nadhikalil Sundari Yamuna Productions
Escalating Dispute in Film Productions
The ongoing dispute regarding the films Sumathi Valavu and Nadhikalil Sundari Yamuna intensified on Thursday. Scriptwriter Abhilash Pillai and director Vishnu Sasi Shankar accused actor Unni Mukundan of orchestrating a targeted public relations campaign against them. This controversy was ignited by an emotional video from producer Murali Kunnumpurathu, who claimed that the film's team had inflicted significant financial losses. In response, Pillai and Shankar have denied these allegations and presented their perspective on the situation. They further suggested that Mukundan may have influenced a negative narrative against them. As this public feud unfolds, fans are eager to learn more about the personal dynamics among the involved parties, especially given their collaboration on the film.
Unni Mukundan's Relationship with Abhilash Pillai and Vishnu Sasi Shankar
Abhilash Pillai and Director Vishnu Sasi Shankar Are Unhappy With Unni Mukundan
Director Vishnu Sasi Shankar disclosed that his working relationship with Unni Mukundan deteriorated during the production of Malikappuram. Abhilash accused Mukundan of trying to sway Murali against collaborating with Vishnu. He alleged that Mukundan was behind rumors suggesting that he, rather than Vishnu, directed Malikappuram. He questioned, “Why do successful films come from Unni Mukundan while others are directed by those who have flopped?” Furthermore, he claimed that Unni personally contacted Murali to dissuade him from working with Vishnu.
This is not the first instance of controversy surrounding Unni Mukundan. In May 2025, he faced allegations of assaulting his former manager, Vipin Kumar, following professional disagreements and a social media post, which led to a police investigation. Kumar alleged he was physically attacked, but authorities later determined it was a minor incident with no substantial evidence of violence. Mukundan denied the allegations, asserting that Kumar was never his official manager.
Producer Murali Kunnumpurathu's Financial Claims
About Sumathi Valavu Producer Controversy
Producer Murali Kunnumpurathu recently shared a heartfelt video claiming that the production of Sumathi Valavu resulted in losses nearing Rs 7 crore. However, scriptwriter Abhilash Pillai has strongly contested Murali’s account. He stated that the producer initially indicated a significantly lower investment capability than what was necessary to complete the project. Abhilash asserted that he had communicated a minimum budget requirement of Rs 10 crore. Just before filming began, Murali reportedly revealed he only had Rs 25 lakh available, despite earlier promises of securing funds. This unexpected financial shortfall compelled the team to seek alternative funding sources.
To keep the production afloat, Abhilash approached a production house in Tamil Nadu, which contributed Rs 2 crore. Additionally, a distributor from Dubai provided Rs 1 crore as an advance. Over time, the project's budget escalated to around Rs 14 crore, with other producers stepping in later. Abhilash claimed that Murali's financial contribution was minimal, while most funding came from external partners. Meanwhile, several technicians and actors are reportedly still awaiting payment, complicating matters further. Some artists had to be convinced to complete dubbing due to outstanding dues. Interestingly, Abhilash mentioned that he had previously proposed a sequel, Sumathi Valavu 2, involving Murali and had even offered to support a Tamil remake of Vellam. He questioned why the producer would agree to future projects if he believed the director was incapable.
