Controversy Erupts Over KD: The Devil's Sarke Chunar Song
Controversial Lyrics Spark Outrage
The song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the film KD: The Devil, featuring Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi, has ignited significant controversy due to its contentious lyrics and choreography. This backlash resulted in the song being removed from YouTube and other streaming services, and even led to a reported fatwa against Nora Fatehi. The National Commission for Women has taken notice of the situation, issuing statements to both Nora and Sanjay regarding the matter.
Director Prem Addresses the Backlash
KD The Devil director says Sarke Chunar song wasn't meant for controversy
In light of the growing speculation that the outrage was a marketing tactic, director Prem firmly rejected this notion. He stated to a media outlet, "I have no interest in controversy. This is an emotional film, and the song was simply meant to be a fun, party number." He noted that the song has received positive feedback in Karnataka and Kerala, emphasizing that he never intended to create any issues.
Prem Admits Language Barrier
Prem confesses not understanding Hindi version of Sarke Chunar
Prem clarified that he penned the original lyrics in Kannada, while the Hindi version was translated by lyricist Raqueeb Alam. He acknowledged that he was unaware of the specific phrases that sparked the backlash. He mentioned that the Kannada lyrics were well-received without any complaints. "I’m not fluent in Hindi, so I didn’t fully grasp the translated lines. I come from a village where phrases like ‘neeche mat gira, uthao’ are part of everyday Janapada speech," he explained.
Changes Made to the Controversial Lyrics
Prem mentioned that the controversial lines have now been altered, and the updated version will be submitted to the Censor Board. He expressed regret for any offense caused, stating, "A small lyrics issue in a big film has been blown out of proportion." He questioned, "With so many significant global issues like war and LPG shortages, why create such a massive controversy over a song?" Meanwhile, Nora Fatehi also spoke out, claiming she was unaware of the Hindi version and had not consented to the use of her image in it. The film KD: The Devil stars Dhruva Sarja alongside Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, V Ravichandran, Ramesh Aravind, Reeshma Nanaiah, Jisshu Sengupta, and Nora Fatehi, and is set to hit theaters on April 30, 2026.
