Controversy Arises Over Sunny Deol's Film Teaser 'Surya - Ant Se Aarambh Tak'

The teaser for Sunny Deol's upcoming film 'Surya - Ant Se Aarambh Tak', released on his birthday, has ignited significant controversy. The Indian Medical Association and resident doctors from AIIMS, Delhi, have raised alarms over the film's depiction of violence against healthcare professionals. They argue that such portrayals could undermine trust between doctors and patients and exacerbate existing violence against medical staff. The Gujarat IMA has also called for a review of the film's content ahead of its release on November 20. This situation highlights the critical impact of cinema on societal perceptions and the responsibilities filmmakers hold.

Teaser Release Sparks Outrage

On October 19, coinciding with Sunny Deol's birthday, the teaser for his upcoming movie, 'Surya - Ant Se Aarambh Tak', was unveiled. Following its release, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and resident doctors from AIIMS, Delhi, expressed their concerns regarding the film's portrayal of medical professionals.

Concerns Raised by the IMA

Allegations by the IMA
Dr. Piyush Jain, the Finance Secretary of the IMA, emphasized that countless doctors work tirelessly for the public, often in challenging conditions. He stated that while individual misconduct should be addressed, it is unjust to tarnish the reputation of the entire medical community due to the actions of a few.

Dr. Jain remarked, "It is unacceptable to glorify or sensationalize violence against healthcare professionals. Such portrayals can erode the trust that exists between doctors and patients. We must stop defaming those who dedicate their lives to saving others."

AIIMS Doctors Join the Criticism

Allegations by AIIMS Doctors
The Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) at AIIMS, Delhi, has also voiced strong objections to the film's teaser. They argue that it depicts violent attacks on healthcare workers, thereby endorsing such behavior.

The RDA claims that the film's main character is shown committing severe acts of violence against medical staff within a hospital setting. They further assert that the dialogue in the teaser seems to condone these violent actions.

The association highlighted the significant influence cinema has on societal attitudes and behaviors. They warned that normalizing violence against doctors sends a perilous message to the public, potentially worsening the already prevalent violence against healthcare workers. The RDA has called upon the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the film's producers to take immediate action to rectify this issue. They demand that the film does not promote or justify violence against medical professionals.

Gujarat IMA Calls for Film Review

Gujarat IMA also demands a review of the film
The Gujarat branch of the IMA has echoed these concerns, urging the central government and the CBFC to thoroughly review the film's content, including its dialogues and scenes involving doctors and hospitals, ahead of its release on November 20.

In a letter to the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, the organization clarified that while they do not oppose the depiction of real instances of medical negligence, they are apprehensive that the film may portray the medical profession in a negative and misleading manner.
