Suriya and Trisha's 'Karuppu' Makes Waves at the Box Office on Opening Day!
Box Office Success for 'Karuppu'
The Tamil action film "Karuppu," starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, had a remarkable debut at the box office on May 15, 2026. Although it did not secure a spot in the top 10 for the highest first-day earnings, it still achieved impressive figures, placing it alongside notable films like Rajinikanth’s "Coolie," Thalapathy Vijay’s "Leo," and Shraddha Kapoor’s "Stree 2." Despite being released only in Tamil and Telugu, "Karuppu" attracted significant attention and ticket sales.
As per the latest data from the ticket-booking service BookMyShow, "Karuppu" sold 704,000 tickets on its opening day, with an additional 75,000 tickets sold in pre-sales. This totals an impressive 775,000 tickets, showcasing the film's strong appeal in its targeted regions.
In terms of first-day ticket sales, "Karuppu" successfully entered the 700,000 club, joining the ranks of successful films like "Coolie," which sold 715,000 tickets, "Stree 2" with 729,000, and "Leo" at 756,000. However, it narrowly missed the top 10 by just 14,000 tickets, trailing behind "Coolie," highlighting the competitive nature of the box office.
It's worth noting that Rajinikanth’s "Jailer" was not included in the day-one sales figures due to inconsistencies between trade and official reports. While estimates suggest it surpassed 600,000 tickets, production claims indicate it may have exceeded 1 million on its opening day. This context adds to the competitive landscape in which "Karuppu" is operating.
As "Karuppu" heads into its opening weekend, the mixed reviews will be crucial in shaping its box office performance. With a strong start in ticket sales, both audiences and industry experts are eager to see if the film can maintain its momentum in the days ahead.
