Shah Rukh Khan and his spouse Gori Khan have received a major boost as the Supreme Court has dismissed a petition that sought to challenge the renovation plans for their famous residence, Manut, located in Mumbai. This ruling clears the path for the expansion of their Bandra bungalow, which will include the addition of two new residential floors. This decision is particularly significant for the actor, as his home stands as one of the most iconic landmarks in Mumbai. The Supreme Court rejected an appeal that questioned the coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearance previously granted for the renovation, choosing not to interfere with an earlier ruling from the National Green Tribunal that had dismissed challenges to the environmental approval.

The appeal was initiated by Santos Donker, a local activist from Mumbai, who raised concerns about the permissions granted for the construction. During the court proceedings, senior advocate Shoub Alam, representing the petitioner, called for a thorough review of the case, insisting that it should not be swayed by Shah Rukh Khan's celebrity status. Alam highlighted Donker's track record of exposing housing frauds and his active participation in public interest issues. However, the Supreme Court clarified that the actor's fame was irrelevant to their ruling, pointing out that authorities had confirmed compliance with legal standards. The Chief Justice remarked, "They are residing there. If they wish to add more floors to their residential property, that is their prerogative. The law is generally adhered to. Why should a neighbor or anyone else interfere?"

The court also expressed doubts about the petition's legitimacy, with the Chief Justice stating, "I have serious reservations about the petitioner's bona fides." In response, the petitioner's attorney argued that the National Green Tribunal had not questioned the petitioner's motives and requested the Supreme Court to send the matter back for further consideration, citing significant legal issues raised by the case. Despite these arguments, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, upholding the National Green Tribunal's earlier rejection of the petition at the admission stage, which found no procedural or legal flaws in the CRZ clearance issued by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority on January 3, 2025.

The original petition contested the CRZ clearance, alleging that the renovation plans were linked to previous violations of coastal regulation zone regulations and claimed that heritage structures on the property had been demolished without the required environmental permissions. Concerns were also raised regarding coastal erosion, groundwater and mineral extraction, and past construction activities on the site. After examining the claims, the National Green Tribunal concluded that there was no evidence of wrongdoing in the CRZ clearance for the addition of two residential floors to Manut. The Supreme Court has now upheld this finding, effectively resolving the legal dispute. With the case dismissed, Shah Rukh Khan and Gori Khan can finally move forward with the long-anticipated renovation of their beloved home.
