Sivakarthikeyan's Impact on Producer's Finances

Sivakarthikeyan, a prominent figure in Tamil cinema, has experienced a rollercoaster ride in his film career. However, the financial repercussions of some of his high-budget movies have severely affected producer Kotapadi J Rajesh. In a candid discussion, Rajesh disclosed that he is currently grappling with a staggering debt of Rs 120 crore, primarily due to losses from films featuring Sivakarthikeyan, such as Hero and Ayalaan. He elaborated on how these financial troubles have escalated over time.

In a recent interview with a media outlet, producer Kotapadi J Rajesh revealed the extent of his financial woes, stating that he is currently burdened by significant debt. He explained that films like Hero (2019), Doctor (2021), and Ayalaan (2024) were initially linked to 24AM Studios, but he later took over these projects. His involvement came at a critical time when Hero faced production delays.

Rajesh had hoped that future collaborations with Sivakarthikeyan would help mitigate his losses, but the outcome was not as expected. While Hero did not perform well at the box office, Ayalaan's delays further compounded his financial difficulties. The COVID-19 pandemic also played a role in exacerbating the situation, disrupting film schedules and increasing financial strain. Initially, the debt was Rs 90 crore, but it has now ballooned to Rs 120 crore due to accumulating interest.

Doctor's Success Did Not Alleviate Financial Burden

Doctor's Performance Did Not Make A Difference

Interestingly, Rajesh noted that even successful films like Doctor did not provide the financial relief he had hoped for, as prior losses needed to be addressed first. He stated, "To manage the losses from Ayalaan, we had agreed to produce three films with Siva, one of which was Doctor. Despite Doctor's success, neither Siva nor I profited from it because we had to prioritize clearing the Rs 90 crore debt from Ayalaan first," he explained.

Despite his background in banking, Rajesh admitted that he underestimated the complexities of film production and budgeting. He acknowledged that his expectations regarding managing large-scale film finances were misguided. He also mentioned that Sivakarthikeyan's losses amount to Rs 55 crore. Meanwhile, Rajesh is preparing for his debut as a lead actor in Angikaaram, directed by newcomer Thenpathiyan.
