Mohanlal and Mammootty's 'Patriot' Shatters Records at the Box Office!
A Historic Opening for 'Patriot'
The latest film featuring Mohanlal and Mammootty, titled "Patriot," has made an impressive mark at the global box office, thanks to strong backing from audiences both at home and abroad. Remarkably, the film's earnings from international markets have surpassed those from the domestic scene, highlighting the significant global fan following of these two Mollywood legends. This stellar performance has earned "Patriot" the title of the second-highest opening in Malayalam cinema history.
On its first day, this spy action thriller raked in 11.56 crore (net 9.8 crore) in India, with Kerala contributing a substantial 8.5 crore. In contrast, the film's international debut was even more impressive, grossing 18 crore. This indicates that the overseas earnings were 55.7% higher than those from the domestic market. Altogether, the film's worldwide collection on day one reached a remarkable 29.56 crore gross.
With this achievement, "Patriot" has secured the second-largest opening for a Mollywood film globally, only behind Mohanlal’s "L2: Empuraan," which grossed an astonishing 67.78 crore on its opening day. "Patriot" fell short by 56.38% compared to "L2: Empuraan." As excitement builds, many are looking forward to the release of "Drishyam 3" on May 21, which may potentially break the record set by "L2: Empuraan."
Despite its strong debut, there are concerns about "Patriot" reaching a global gross of 100 crore due to its mixed reviews. Directed by Mahesh Narayan, who previously helmed "C U Soon" and "Malik," the film boasts a stellar cast, including Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, and Revathi in key roles. Released in theaters on May 1, "Patriot" is reported to have a production budget of 125 crore, making it one of the priciest films in the Malayalam film sector.
As the box office journey of "Patriot" continues, industry experts will be closely monitoring its performance in the upcoming weeks, especially given the mixed reviews and the competitive nature of forthcoming releases. The film's ability to maintain its momentum will be vital in determining its overall success in the global arena.
