Mirzapur Film Surpasses ₹155 Crore at Domestic Box Office

The film adaptation of the acclaimed streaming series Mirzapur has achieved a remarkable financial feat, surpassing ₹155 crore at the Indian box office. Directed by Gurmeet Singh, this movie continues the storyline established in the three seasons of the Prime Video series and has shown consistent performance since its release on September 4.

As per trade reports from Sacnilk, the film garnered ₹7.84 crore net in India on its eighth day, bringing its total domestic earnings to ₹156.29 crore. This follows a strong opening week where the film collected ₹149.70 crore. Despite facing competition from other new releases, such as Haiwaan featuring Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, it has successfully maintained its momentum as it approaches its second weekend.

Box Office Success and Industry Impact

The film kicked off with an impressive opening day collection of ₹25.75 crore, followed by a successful first weekend that brought in ₹32 crore and ₹36 crore, respectively. Although there was a natural decline during the weekdays, with daily earnings fluctuating between ₹10.55 crore and ₹16 crore, its overall performance has established it as a significant commercial success for 2026. Reports indicate that it has outperformed several other notable releases, including Welcome to the Jungle and Awarapan 2, which had lifetime collections of ₹134.41 crore and ₹150.43 crore, respectively.

Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the Excel Entertainment label, the film boasts a star-studded cast, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Rasika Dugal, and Ravi Kishan. Released in both Hindi and Telugu, the Hindi version has been the primary contributor to its box office success.

Controversy Over Musical Inclusion

In addition to its box office achievements, the film has recently faced public backlash regarding the inclusion of the song Shoorveer. This track, which honors the historical figure Maharana Pratap, was used in a scene featuring criminal characters, leading to objections from various groups.

Rapperiya Baalam, the original artist of the song, has expressed his discontent with its placement in the film. This sentiment was echoed by senior BJP leader Rajendra Rathore, who has formally requested the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to remove the song from the film. Rathore argued that linking a song dedicated to Maharana Pratap with scenes of gangsters and drug dealers disrespects cultural and historical heritage. Currently, the film continues to screen in theaters, and the production team has yet to release an official statement regarding the ongoing controversy.
