Bollywood Stars Shraddha Kapoor and Others Cleared from Mumbai Drug Case Chargesheet
Key Developments in the Mumbai Drug Case
In a notable update regarding the 2022 Mumbai drug supply investigation involving mephedrone, prominent Bollywood personalities including Shraddha Kapoor, Siddhant Kapoor, Nora Fatehi, influencer Orry, and politician Zeeshan Siddique will not be featured in the forthcoming supplementary chargesheet. The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police has confirmed that no substantial evidence has been found linking these individuals to the alleged drug operation. The supplementary chargesheet, anticipated to be submitted next week, will concentrate on individuals already detained and others still being sought by authorities.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that an initial chargesheet was filed against three suspects, while the upcoming document will address two individuals currently in custody and additional wanted suspects. The police have indicated that the investigation has reached a conclusion based on the evidence gathered over the last two years, which has not supported claims against the celebrities. However, investigators have indicated that they remain open to future actions should new evidence come to light.
It is crucial to understand that the exclusion of these celebrities from the chargesheet does not imply a complete exoneration. An officer involved in the case clarified that the supplementary chargesheet will include Lavish and Mohammad Iqbal Ansari, who was arrested in November, along with other wanted suspects. The investigation has not yet produced any evidence implicating the celebrities, resulting in their exclusion from the current charges.
The involvement of these celebrities first emerged in a remand application submitted in November 2024, which sought extended custody of accused Mohammad Sohail Shaikh, also known as Lavish. The remand report cited Lavish's alleged claims connecting drug parties to well-known figures, prompting the police to summon and record statements from several individuals, including Orry and Siddhant Kapoor.
The mephedrone case began on August 4, 2022, when the ANC apprehended Mohammad Shahrukh Shaikh and confiscated 995 grams of the substance. Further investigations led to the identification of additional suspects and the discovery of a factory in Sangli associated with mephedrone production. Although the names of these celebrities have appeared in official documents, the current review of evidence has not provided sufficient grounds for charges against them, although they may still face legal consequences in the future if credible new evidence emerges.
