A Great Loss to Malayalam Cinema

Salim Kumar, the acclaimed Malayalam actor and director who won a National Award, sadly passed away on June 6 due to a cardiac arrest, leaving a void in the Indian film industry. The 56-year-old actor took his last breath at a private hospital in Kochi, where he had been on ventilator support following a sudden decline in his health. Known for his exceptional versatility in comedy, drama, and character roles, Salim Kumar made a significant impact on Malayalam cinema throughout his extensive career. In the wake of this tragic news, numerous film personalities, including Mammootty and Prithviraj Sukumaran, expressed their heartfelt tributes, honoring his substantial contributions to the industry.


Industry Mourns the Loss of Salim Kumar

Mammootty shared a touching tribute on X, reflecting on Salim's ability to bring joy and provoke thought, stating that his passing now brings only sorrow. He expressed that the loss has become an "unending sorrow."

Prithviraj Sukumaran also paid his respects through an emotional Instagram Story, saying, "Farewell Salim-etta. Thank you for the memories," acknowledging the late actor's enduring influence on Malayalam cinema and his colleagues.
Meanwhile, Tovino Thomas shared a poignant image of Salim Kumar, captioning his post with a heartbreak emoji.
V. D. Satheesan expressed his sorrow, describing Salim Kumar as not only a "prince of laughter" but also a courageous individual who openly shared his political views. He characterized Salim as a versatile genius capable of evoking both laughter and tears, lamenting the loss of a legend in Malayalam cinema and a brother in his life.


Funeral Arrangements for Salim Kumar

The final rites for Salim Kumar are set to occur on Sunday (June 7) in his hometown of Paravur. His body will be displayed at Paravur Town Hall starting at 9 am, allowing fans and the public to pay their last respects. Reports indicate that Kerala Opposition Leader VD Satheesan is expected to visit and extend his condolences. Salim Kumar's journey began as a talented mimicry artist, eventually becoming one of the most cherished figures in Malayalam cinema. He debuted in acting with Ishtamanu Nooru Vattam and gained fame through films like Thenkasipattanam, CID Moosa, Kalyanaraman, Mayavi, and Meesha Madhavan. A recipient of the National Award, he also directed films such as Compartment and Karutha Joothan. Over his lengthy career, the late actor-director left an unforgettable legacy in Indian cinema, earning the respect and admiration of fans and peers alike.
