Christopher Nolan's press tour for The Odyssey has made a significant stop in Mumbai, marking a historic moment for Hollywood in India. The acclaimed director shared his deep connection to the city and its vibrant film culture, expressing excitement about premiering his film there. Nolan reflected on his previous experiences filming in India and emphasized the importance of providing audiences with an immersive cinematic experience. The Odyssey, featuring stars like Matt Damon and Tom Holland, is set to release on July 17, promising to deliver a spectacular viewing experience shot entirely with IMAX cameras.

The promotional tour for The Odyssey has made notable stops in cities like London, Paris, and Mumbai, with upcoming visits planned for New York City, Beijing, and Seoul. This marks a significant moment as it is the first time a major Hollywood studio has included Mumbai in its global promotional activities. During a press conference, filmmaker Christopher Nolan expressed his excitement about finally bringing his work to India, having previously attended special events and screenings, including his acclaimed film Dunkirk.

When asked about his decision to include India in the tour, Nolan reflected on his long-standing relationship with the city. He shared, "My first visit to Mumbai was years ago, thanks to my friend Shivendra [Singh Dungarpur], where I participated in a conference discussing the future of cinema. I met numerous filmmakers and gained insight into the local film culture. The appreciation for cinema here is unparalleled, and it felt essential to premiere our films for the Mumbai audience. I'm genuinely excited to do this now."


Filming Experiences in India

Nolan also mentioned that they had initially planned to visit with Tenet, which was filmed in Mumbai, but the pandemic delayed those plans. He expressed his joy at finally being able to bring the film to the city, stating, "We’ve wanted to do this for years, and it’s thrilling to finally make it happen." The 2020 film featured local talent such as Dimple Kapadia, Himesh Patel, and Denzil Smith.

In addition to Tenet, Nolan filmed The Dark Knight Rises in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Reflecting on these experiences, he noted, "For someone new to this city, there’s beauty and texture everywhere, making it a photographer's dream. Working with local crews was a fantastic experience, and we shot in IMAX during that time."

Discussing the premiere of The Odyssey at the IMAX theatre in Phoenix Palladium, Nolan emphasized the importance of providing audiences with an immersive experience. He stated, "Our goal is to film in the best possible way so that audiences worldwide, especially in India, can enjoy the film on these massive screens and have an unforgettable experience." The film, featuring stars like Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland, is set to hit theaters on July 17 and has been shot entirely with IMAX cameras.
