Chinmayi Sripada Discusses Her Dubbing Experience

Chinmayi Sripada on dubbing for Trisha in Karuppu

Chinmayi took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her experience of dubbing for Trisha in Karuppu. She mentioned her long-standing acquaintance with RJ Balaji and his wife, describing them as 'wonderful people'. She praised RJ Balaji's journey as one of grit and determination. Reflecting on her past experiences, particularly with Leo, she expressed concern about potential backlash due to her participation in Karuppu.

Chinmayi recounted, "I remember crying buckets while dubbing for several scenes in the film—it was a significant emotional trigger, almost like reliving past events on the big screen." She expressed gratitude to the director for allowing her to lend her voice to Trisha's character. She added, "I hope that Karuppu will enable me to work freely in my field, without fear of repercussions." In her closing remarks, she wished for divine intervention to lift the bans imposed on her and others who have faced similar restrictions.

Background on Chinmayi Sripada's Ban

Why was Chinmayi Sripada banned?

In 2018, the Tamil Nadu Dubbing Union imposed a ban on Chinmayi after she publicly addressed issues of sexual harassment within the industry. During the MeToo Movement, she specifically named Radha Ravi, the president of the dubbing union. Nevertheless, she managed to dub for Trisha in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Leo, released in 2023. At that time, the union reportedly criticized the filmmaker for employing a banned artist, leading to a ₹50,000 fine imposed on him prior to Leo's release, which also featured Thalapathy Vijay.
