Cha Eun-Woo Removed from That Day in the Military

South Korean actor Cha Eun-Woo has been taken off the military-themed series That Day in the Military due to a significant tax evasion investigation. This news has ignited considerable debate among fans and the general public, particularly as the show has made all episodes featuring him private. The series, which highlights celebrities serving in the military while recounting historical military events, is now set to continue with a new host. Former SF9 member Rowoon has been announced as the replacement storyteller.

Cha Eun-Woo's Departure from That Day in the Military

That Day in the Military, produced by the Defense Media Agency’s KFN Plus channel, features celebrity soldiers discussing important military events and historical figures. The show has previously included well-known stars like Song Kang and Taeyong, gaining a strong following among viewers. Cha Eun-Woo joined the series last year and appeared in four episodes. However, due to the recent tax allegations, all his appearances have been removed from public access, with viewers now encountering a message stating: “This video is unavailable.” This abrupt change has led to Rowoon stepping in as the new face of the show. According to a report from Hankook Ilbo on March 5, Rowoon, who is currently serving in the South Korean military, has confirmed his role as the new storyteller and is preparing for filming.

Introducing Rowoon

Rowoon enlisted as an active-duty soldier on October 27 last year. His journey to enlistment was not without challenges; he was initially slated to start service on July 21 but received a Grade 7 classification during his military physical examination. After appealing this decision and undergoing a second evaluation, he was ultimately deemed fit for active duty and enlisted later that year. Prior to his military service, Rowoon had already established a successful career in both music and acting, debuting in 2016 as a member of SF9 and later gaining fame for his roles in popular Korean dramas. In 2023, he officially departed from the group to concentrate on his acting career.

Cha Eun-Woo's Tax Evasion Controversy

Cha Eun-Woo's issues extend beyond this series. The actor-singer, also a member of ASTRO, has been under scrutiny from the Seoul Regional Tax Office’s Investigation Division 4, which reportedly informed him of a tax assessment totaling around 20 billion KRW (approximately $13.7 million). This case is notable as one of the largest tax scandals involving a celebrity in South Korea. The controversy has also impacted his brand collaborations; earlier this year, his advertising contract with telecom giant LG Uplus ended. Reports indicate that the contract was terminated in February, although the company clarified that it simply expired and there are no current plans for renewal discussions.
