BTS V's Private Messages in Legal Proceedings

On February 20, BTS member V found himself compelled to discuss his private KakaoTalk messages that were presented in court during Min Hee-jin's legal dispute. Reports indicated that certain private exchanges between Hee-jin and V were utilized as evidence in the case. The agency representing BTS, HYBE, issued a statement clarifying that the messages were intended to convey empathy in a private context, rather than to endorse any specific comments made by the other party. The court has since ruled that concerns regarding these practices do not constitute a significant breach of contract or a legitimate basis for terminating the exclusive distribution agreement.

Following the court's inclusion of the dialogue between V and Min in its review, V expressed his discontent regarding the use of their private conversation as evidence. The court determined that the actions taken against the defendant were insufficient to be classified as a serious contract violation that would warrant the cancellation of the exclusive distribution agreement.

On the same day, V, also known as Tae-hyung, shared an Instagram story voicing his astonishment at the use of his private conversation with Hee-jin in the legal proceedings. He stated in Korean, "This is part of a private, everyday conversation that I shared with empathy, as they were my acquaintance. I had no intention of taking sides.” During the hearings, messages exchanged between Min and V were presented, revealing that the K-pop star acknowledged the occasional emergence of plagiarism concerns and noted that certain elements of a song appeared similar. Although V was not directly named in the lawsuit, his messages played a pivotal role in the court's initial decision.

Details of the Conversation

The conversation included Min asserting that the girl group BELIFT LAB’s ILLIT had plagiarized ADOR's NewJeans. This remark was interpreted as a personal opinion and did not constitute a breach of trust. It was also revealed that V concurred with the observation that there were indeed similarities.
