Bridgerton Season 4 Fails to Make Netflix's Top 10: What This Means for the Series
Bridgerton's Performance on Netflix
All three previous seasons of Bridgerton along with the spinoff Queen Charlotte have previously secured spots on Netflix’s all-time Top 10 list. However, as of now, only Season 1 and Season 3 remain on that list, while the recently launched Season 4 has not managed to enter it. This marks the first instance where the series, inspired by Julia Quinn's novels, has not been included, highlighting a concerning trend for the streaming platform as newer seasons of its original content struggle to achieve similar viewership numbers. Additionally, the lengthy gaps between seasons have led audiences to lose interest. Here, we explore the reasons behind the mixed performance of Bridgerton Season 4.
Bridgerton's Ranking on Netflix
Bridgerton and the Netflix all-time top 10 list
The inaugural season of Bridgerton, which debuted on Christmas Day in 2020, holds the record with an impressive 113.3 million views, currently ranking seventh on the list. However, these figures were compiled using Netflix's previous metrics. The platform now employs a 91-day viewing window for its calculations.
The second season, released in March 2022, garnered 93.8 million views. Following that, the spinoff series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story premiered in May 2023, attracting 81.3 million views despite having two fewer episodes.
For the third and fourth seasons, Netflix adopted a new strategy by releasing them in two parts. Bridgerton Season 3 was launched in May and June 2024, achieving 106 million views. According to What's On Netflix, Bridgerton Season 4, which premiered in January and February 2026, is projected to reach approximately 92 to 95 million views by the end of its run, although official figures have yet to be disclosed. The limited series His & Hers, currently in tenth place, has recorded 98.2 million views.
Declining Viewership Trends
Bridgerton's numbers are part of a growing trend
There is a noticeable decline in viewership across all of Netflix's returning series, from Wednesday to Beef. Each of these shows has returned after a hiatus of at least two years. For instance, The Four Seasons, featuring Tina Fey, Steve Carell, and Colman Domingo, returned last week with a staggering 63 percent drop, totaling 4.4 million views. Similarly, the second season of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, starring Wednesday's Emma Myers, premiered with only 1.8 million views, reflecting a nearly 75 percent decline. Many viewers express surprise at the return of these shows, as the lengthy wait has led them to explore other options.
Looking Ahead for Bridgerton
Bridgerton's future
Despite Season 4's inability to make the cut, fans need not fear for the show's future. The upcoming season of Bridgerton, featuring Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza, is anticipated to premiere in 2027, marking the shortest interval between seasons to date.
Additionally, the series has been renewed for a sixth season, which is expected to center around Claudia Jessie's character, Eloise Bridgerton, and her romantic journey. Producer Shonda Rhimes has expressed her desire for eight seasons, one dedicated to each of the Bridgerton siblings. The anticipated seventh and eighth seasons will likely follow the youngest siblings, Gregory (Will Tilston) and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt).
