Support for Sonam Wangchuk Grows
A multitude of Bollywood figures, including Zeenat Aman and Shabana Azmi, have called on activist Sonam Wangchuk to conclude his hunger strike, emphasizing the importance of his health during the ongoing student protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Omi Vaidya, known for his role in 3 Idiots, recently made headlines with a powerful message supporting Wangchuk. Following his lead, many others have joined the cause. Among them, Vishal Dadlani shared a heartfelt video message expressing his regret for not being able to participate in the protest due to his current tour in the United States. He affirmed his solidarity with the students.
Vishal Dadlani's Urgent Plea
In his Instagram message, Vishal urged, "Wake up India! Don't let Sonam Wangchuk die. He's fasting for all of us, for your children, for India's future." He expressed his sorrow for not being able to join the protest, stating, "My heart is right there with you." He requested attendees at Jantar Mantar to relay his apologies to Wangchuk, emphasizing that if he were in India, he would be there in person. Vishal reiterated the importance of their cause, wishing for Wangchuk's safety and urging the government to heed his concerns. He clarified that the demands were not about political power but rather about the rights and future of students and the nation. He concluded by appealing to the government to listen to the people's voice.
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) shared Vishal's statement on their official page, and many netizens praised him for his support of Wangchuk.
Health Status of Sonam Wangchuk
Today marks the 19th day of Wangchuk's indefinite hunger strike. Reports indicate that his health has deteriorated significantly, and he is under continuous medical supervision. He has lost approximately 8.9 kg, bringing his weight down to 57.15 kg, with his blood pressure at 105/76 mmHg and blood sugar level at 80 mg/dL. Despite his declining health and legal requests for permission to force-feed him, Wangchuk remains resolute in his decision to continue fasting.
