Mumbai, August 3: Actress Bhumi Pednekar has voiced her strong disapproval of the online threats and abuse directed at a young girl involved in a recent protest, asserting that such rape and death threats are "unacceptable."
In a video shared on her social media, Bhumi urged individuals to refrain from harassing others and emphasized the detrimental effects such actions can have on mental well-being.
Her post's caption stated: "Rape and death threats are unacceptable. ..."
In the video, she recounted watching an interview with a young protester who appeared visibly shaken after receiving online threats.
"I came across a video online featuring a young girl from the protest who seemed deeply affected. She had a viral video, and since then, she has been inundated with continuous rape and death threats," Bhumi explained.
She further noted, "It's not just her; her mother and family are also facing these threats. This is simply unacceptable."
Bhumi called for compassion, stating that individuals should not target a young person merely for holding differing opinions.
"We cannot intimidate a young girl. We must not instill fear in a child's mind simply because we disagree with their perspective," she asserted.
Reflecting on her own experiences as a woman and public figure, she remarked, "As women, we endure significant harassment. Personally, I have faced similar situations, and the lasting impact on mental health is profound."
She concluded her message by encouraging unity and a collective effort towards the nation's advancement.
"Ultimately, we all desire the same outcome: a progressive and thriving country. By standing together and addressing issues appropriately, we can foster meaningful change. I hope to leave you with this thought. Thank you.”
