Mumbai, July 25: Actress Bhumi Pednekar has made a heartfelt appeal to the nation to assist those impacted by the severe floods in Assam.
As of July 24, the situation in Assam has become dire, with over 721,000 individuals affected across 11 districts. Reports indicate that five major rivers are currently above the danger mark.
In a video shared on Instagram, Bhumi emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that countless individuals have been displaced, lives have been lost, and entire communities have been obliterated.
She stated in her video: “Namaste, we are all aware of the ongoing crisis in our country. I commend the spirit of unity. However, we must focus on Assam, which is facing catastrophic floods. Approximately 750,000 people have been evacuated, and the death toll has surpassed 40, with numbers continuing to rise.”
“Whole villages have been swept away, and livestock has been lost. Everything they owned has been destroyed. While not many are discussing this, I have faith that, similar to last year, the entire nation will come together. Regions like Punjab, Jammu, Bihar, and Maharashtra demonstrated remarkable community spirit. It is time for us to extend our support once again.”
She urged everyone to contribute donations for essential supplies, including “food, mattresses, sanitation, and evacuation assistance.”
“The images from the region are heartbreaking. Assam truly needs our help. I implore everyone to donate generously and share this message so that our assistance reaches those in need. Jai Hind,” she concluded.
In her video caption, she wrote: “Assam is suffering; you’ve always stepped up, now is the time to show your support #assam #floods.”
