Bengali Film Stars Embrace Democracy: A Day at the Polls
Bengali Actors Participate in West Bengal Elections
In Kolkata, actors from the Bengali film industry took a break from their busy filming schedules to participate in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections on Wednesday.
Prosenjit Chatterjee, a prominent actor, voted in the Ballygunge area alongside his son Trishanjit, expressing joy that it was his son's first time voting. He remarked, "I am thrilled that my son is exercising his democratic right for the first time. Today is a significant day for him."
Mithun Chakraborty, a legendary actor and BJP member, cast his vote at a polling station in Belgachia, his ancestral neighborhood.
Debdut Ghosh, who previously ran for office in the 2021 assembly elections on a CPI(M) ticket, mentioned that he voted early in Dum Dum.
Manali Dey traveled to her family home in Kasba, south Kolkata, to cast her vote. She shared, "I came early in the morning and voted with my father, reminiscing about the days when I voted for the first time."
Bengali superstar and TMC MP Dev voted at a booth in his gated community in south Kolkata, patiently waiting in line with fellow voters. When central force personnel suggested he skip the queue, he graciously declined, stating, "I am in no hurry."
Gargi Roy Choudhury also participated in the voting process at her polling booth in Sector V, Salt Lake.
The second phase of polling saw many areas in Kolkata, particularly Tollygunge, the center of the Bengali television industry, observe what insiders referred to as an "unofficial holiday." With filming halted for the day, actors seized the chance to fulfill their civic duties away from the hustle and bustle of their work.
