Controversy Surrounds Bengali Stars

Public figures frequently find themselves embroiled in controversy when old social media posts resurface, and this time, Bengali actors Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee are in the spotlight. Reports indicate that a complaint has been lodged against them for allegedly inciting violence following the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election results. This election saw significant unrest after the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), led by Mamata Banerjee, triumphed over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking their third consecutive term in office. The aftermath included violent incidents, with several BJP supporters attacked and six fatalities reported. Here’s a detailed overview of the situation.

Actors in Hot Water

On the day of AITC's electoral victory, Parambrata Chatterjee reportedly tweeted in Bengali, suggesting that the day should be recognized as 'World Bashing Day.' This tweet quickly gained traction, with numerous users sharing it and echoing similar sentiments. Actress Swastika Mukherjee also shared the post, adding her own reactions and emojis.

Details of the Complaint

As per a report, a complaint was filed against both actors at the Gariahat police station on May 21. Advocate Joydeep Sen accused them of 'encouraging and provoking violence.' He asserted that the tweet was made during a time of escalating violence in the state, claiming that a murder occurred in Beleghata shortly after the tweet was posted. The complaint stated, 'The content of Parambrata Chatterjee's tweet on May 2, 2021, appears to incite large-scale violence, especially as attacks against BJP workers were already underway. In fact, about an hour after this tweet, one Abhijit Sarkar from Beleghata was brutally killed by TMC supporters, with the perpetrators already facing sentencing.' Additionally, the complaint suggested that Mukherjee's response to the tweet further incited violence against BJP members.

As of now, neither actor has publicly addressed the controversy. This incident comes shortly after the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) initiated renewed investigations into complaints related to the 2021 post-election violence, launching 458 new inquiries and filing 181 fresh FIRs, while also reopening 59 previously closed cases.
