Anupam pointed out that those who are unproductive often resort to criticizing successful individuals to gain attention. He remarked, “Criticism has become a favorite pastime for some, or even a full-time job,” indicating that such negativity no longer angers him but instead brings about a sense of disappointment.


He expressed pride in Alia's representation of India at the festival and praised her ability to handle the trolls, humorously suggesting, “Maybe they are being paid for it.” Anupam referred to these critics as ‘becharas,’ implying they exist solely due to the fame of celebrities, and acknowledged Alia's resilience in dealing with such negativity.

Anupam is revisiting his theatrical roots with his play Jaane Pehchaane Anjane, having recently performed in Mumbai and scheduled for shows in Delhi this week.


He shared that this production feels fresh and different. After successfully running his one-man show, Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, for 21 years, this new play is based on original Marathi works. Anupam discussed the challenges of collaborating with multiple actors and performing a musical alongside Anu Malik. He expressed joy in receiving applause from the audience, emphasizing the unique thrill of live performance without the option for retakes. For Anupam, theatre is essential, pushing him to expand his artistic boundaries beyond mere acting.

With over four decades dedicated to Indian cinema and theatre, Anupam has also been part of international projects like Bend It Like Beckham, Silver Linings Playbook, and the popular series New Amsterdam.
