Surprisingly, he and his brother Raju Kher did not shed tears over their father's death; instead, they chose to celebrate. Their father, Pushkar Nath Kher, passed away on October 10, 2012, while Anupam was en route to Goa for the wedding of director David Dhawan's son. Upon receiving the news, he promptly returned to Mumbai.
