Aamir Khan's recent marriage to Gauri Spratt has sparked controversy, leading to a fatwa issued against him for marrying a non-Muslim. The Shahi Chief Mufti has stated that such unions are not permissible under Islamic law, raising questions about the implications of Khan's third marriage. This situation has drawn attention to the intersection of personal choices and religious beliefs, as Khan's actions are scrutinized within the context of Islamic teachings. The couple, who have known each other for over 20 years, now find themselves at the center of a significant debate regarding faith and marriage.

Aamir Khan's Recent Marriage Sparks Fatwa

Aamir Khan and Gauri Spratt tied the knot in a private ceremony on July 5. Shortly after their wedding, Khan traveled to London to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Lagaan. However, just ten days post-marriage, a fatwa was issued against him for marrying a woman of a different faith. This controversy is further complicated by the fact that this is Khan's third marriage. Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the Shahi Chief Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta, stated in a recent interview that Islamic law prohibits such unions.

Reasons Behind the Fatwa Against Aamir Khan

In an interview with a news outlet, Hussain expressed that any Muslim who marries a non-Muslim should seek forgiveness from Allah for violating Sharia. He noted that Aamir's third marriage has drawn criticism, with some Muslim individuals voicing their disapproval. He recounted a conversation with a non-Muslim who questioned the legitimacy of such a marriage in Islam. Hussain emphasized, “Marrying a non-Muslim woman contradicts Sharia and damages the reputation of Islam.”

In issuing the fatwa, Hussain referenced the Quran, stating that “for Muslim men who are believers, marriage is only allowed with Muslim women.” He questioned the validity of Aamir's marriage to a non-believer, labeling it a ‘sin’ and urging the actor to seek repentance. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of Islamic teachings, noting that actions of Muslims are often viewed as representative of the faith itself.
