West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026: New Voter Registration Surges Ahead of Polls
Significant Increase in Voter Registration
Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, approximately seven lakh new voters have been added to the electoral rolls. However, the Election Commission has not disclosed the ages or any other details regarding these newly registered voters. Officials from the commission indicated that around 3.22 lakh of these voters are expected to participate in the first phase of voting, while the remaining approximately 3.88 lakh will cast their votes in the second phase.

The Election Commission has not clarified how many of the new voters are first-time voters who have just turned 18, nor have they provided any additional information about these voters.

Furthermore, the commission has not revealed how many Form-6 applications were submitted for inclusion in the voter list or how many of those applications were rejected. A senior official stated, 'The total figures have been released in accordance with the criteria. Detailed statistics are prepared and will be shared later if necessary.'
Current Voter Count in Bengal
The commission has reported that the total number of voters in West Bengal now stands at 6,82,51,008, a figure that may increase following the addition of names as per tribunal orders. Voting in Bengal is scheduled for April 23 and 29, with results to be announced on May 4.
