Humayun Kabir Launches New Party Ahead of West Bengal Elections

Humayun Kabir, previously with the TMC, has launched his new political party, AJUP, ahead of the West Bengal elections. He claims to have faced challenges with candidates leaving for TMC and accuses the party of corruption in ticket sales. Kabir expresses confidence in his party's support and aims to contest from two assembly seats. His statements target TMC leadership, promising a strong response in the upcoming elections. As the political landscape shifts, Kabir's new venture could significantly impact the electoral outcome.

Humayun Kabir's New Political Venture

Formerly associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Humayun Kabir has entered the electoral arena with his newly formed party, the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP). Just before the first phase of voting in West Bengal, Kabir revealed that he initially fielded 142 candidates, but now only 117 remain. He accused the TMC of attempting to lure his candidates away, claiming that around 25 to 26 have accepted money to switch parties. Kabir further alleged that the TMC is selling assembly election tickets for millions of rupees, naming specific candidates who reportedly paid hefty sums for their nominations.

Support for AJUP and Criticism of TMC

Kabir expressed confidence in his new party, stating that it has garnered significant support in just four months, likening its growth to that of a newborn learning to eat. He took a jab at TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, asserting that he will receive a fitting response in the elections. Addressing accusations of being a secondary team for either the BJP or TMC, Kabir firmly stated that he does not align with any party's B or C team.

Statements from Humayun Kabir

Discussing the formation of his party, Kabir noted, 'My party was established on December 31, 2025, and we received our symbol on March 24, 2026. Despite facing skepticism, I proved the naysayers wrong. In just over four months, we have gained substantial support. Although 25 to 26 candidates left for TMC, I am not troubled. We still have 117 candidates, with 78 participating in the first phase.'

Allegations Against TMC

Kabir accused the TMC of selling tickets, citing an instance where Dr. Abdul Aziz, related to a leader previously imprisoned, was allegedly given a ticket for 10 crore rupees. He claimed that candidates are being bought from AJUP, questioning Banerjee's integrity and asserting that the TMC's practices will lead to their downfall in the upcoming elections.

Kabir's Electoral Strategy

In response to being labeled as the BJP's B team, Kabir stated, 'Let them say what they want. The results on May 4 will speak for themselves. I am the captain of my own team and have the right to make decisions for my party. On election day, my legislators will be at Motijheel Park, and I expect to see Mamata Banerjee approaching me for support.'

Kabir's Electoral Contest

This election cycle, Humayun Kabir is contesting from the Nawda and Rezinagar assembly seats, stepping away from his previous constituency in Bharatpur. In Nawda, he faces competition from BJP's Rana Mandal and TMC's Sahina Mumtaz Khan, while in Rezinagar, he is up against TMC's Ataur Rahman and BJP's Bapan Ghosh.
