This article delves into the unfolding drama surrounding the elections and the allegations from both parties.

Monitoring EVMs Ahead of West Bengal Elections

On Friday, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari expressed concerns regarding the integrity of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, emphasizing the need to keep a close watch on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. His remarks came after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo spent nearly four hours monitoring the strong room housing the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) on Thursday night. The TMC has accused the BJP of attempting to tamper with the EVMs inside the strong room.

Suvendu Adhikari's Statements

Adhikari stated that there is heightened vigilance over the EVMs and the strong room in the Bhawanipur constituency. In response, the TMC has also claimed to be closely monitoring the strong room. Sharing a photo of Mamata Banerjee inside the strong room, Adhikari reassured the voters of Bhawanipur and the entire state of West Bengal that strict instructions have been issued to prevent any misuse by the TMC candidate, who is the current Chief Minister. Adhikari is contesting against Banerjee in Bhawanipur and asserted that she cannot engage in any unlawful activities, no matter how hard she tries.

Background of the Situation

On Thursday, TMC leaders accused the BJP of attempting to manipulate the EVMs and issued warnings against such actions. This prompted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to visit the strong room during the night. She claimed that reports of irregularities related to the EVMs had emerged from various parts of the state. Banerjee decided to inspect the strong room after reviewing CCTV footage. Earlier, TMC leaders Kunal Ghosh and Shashi Panja staged a protest outside the Khudiram Anushilan Center in Kolkata, alleging irregularities inside the center and claiming that CCTV footage showed outsiders tampering with ballot papers.
