Tragic Road Accident Claims Life of Senior Journalist Ratul Bora

Jorhat, April 20: Ratul Bora, a prominent journalist associated with Dainik Asom and a respected educationist, was tragically killed when a truck reportedly ran over his motorcycle on National Highway 37 in Dergaon, Golaghat district, on Monday morning.
The 56-year-old, who resided in Kumar Gaon, was serving as the Dergaon correspondent for Dainik Asom and was also the headmaster at Lakheraj Janajati High School.
Reports indicate that the accident took place around 8:30 am while Bora was commuting to work on his motorcycle (AS03P6645).
As he traveled along NH-37 in Dergaon, a truck with the registration number RJ05GA7942 allegedly struck him, resulting in his immediate death.
CCTV footage captured the moments leading up to the incident, showing Bora riding next to the truck just before the collision.
Witnesses reported that the truck was en route to Jorhat at the time of the accident.
One local bystander mentioned, “It has been nearly an hour since the truck hit him, and the police have yet to arrive. The truck was heading towards Jorhat, and I am unaware of the victim’s details.”
Another resident noted that traffic police later stopped the truck.
“I observed traffic police intercept the truck near Negherting Chariali after the incident,” the resident stated.
Authorities eventually arrived at the scene and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly accident. The deceased's body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
This incident marks yet another tragic accident on this highway.
Earlier, on March 13, two women, Kusum Guwala and Junmoni Guwala from Umabari in Jorhat, lost their lives when a speeding truck allegedly collided with their scooter from behind at Baduli Pukhuri in Teok while they were heading towards Jorhat.
