Voter Turnout Statistics Released
The final voting statistics for the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have been officially released. According to the Election Commission, West Bengal witnessed a remarkable voter turnout of 93.19% across 152 assembly seats in the first phase. This translates to approximately 3.36 crore voters casting their ballots out of a total of 3.61 crore registered voters. Similarly, Tamil Nadu recorded a turnout of 85.1%, with 4.87 crore voters participating in the election.
Highest Turnout in Tamil Nadu
As per the data provided by the Election Commission, Karur district in Tamil Nadu achieved the highest voter turnout at 92.6%. When looking at individual assembly seats, both Karur and the Veerapandi seat in Salem reported a turnout of 93.4%. Notably, all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu held voting in a single phase, with results expected to be announced on May 4 alongside other states.
West Bengal Sets New Records
Historic Voter Participation
The Election Commission has confirmed that the 93.19% turnout in West Bengal's first phase is the highest recorded in the state's history. Among the voters, 1.65 crore were women and 1.71 crore were men. The highest turnout was noted in Cooch Behar district at 96.2%, followed by South Dinajpur at 95.44% and Malda at 94.79%.
Other districts such as Jalpaiguri, Birbhum, and North Dinajpur also reported impressive turnouts of 94.76%, 94.51%, and 94.16%, respectively. Meanwhile, Murshidabad recorded 93.67%, Alipurduar 93.2%, East Medinipur 92.75%, Bankura 92.55%, Jhargram 92.26%, West Medinipur 92.19%, and Purulia 91.59%. West Bardhaman saw a turnout of 90.32%, while Darjeeling had 88.98%, and Kalimpong recorded the lowest at 83.04%.
Previously, the highest turnout recorded was 84.72% during the 2011 assembly elections, which saw a significant victory for the Trinamool Congress. It is important to note that the second phase of voting in West Bengal is scheduled for April 29, covering 142 seats across seven districts.
