Polling parties began arriving at dispatch centres early Monday.
Raha, Oct 5: The final phase of preparations for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll commenced on Monday, with polling officials and security teams dispatched to their designated polling locations in Nagaon and Morigaon districts.
A total of 11,535 personnel, including polling officials and security forces, have been assigned for the polling scheduled on October 6. This includes 9,228 polling and presiding officers along with 2,307 security personnel.
These officials will be stationed at 2,307 polling booths, comprising 1,339 in Nagaon and 968 in Morigaon.
Polling parties started arriving at dispatch centres early Monday, with vehicles prepared to transport them to their respective polling sites.
Polling parties began collecting EVMs and other election materials from the dispatch centre.
“The polling parties are arriving, and vehicles are ready. Once they get here, they will head straight to their assigned locations. The District Commissioner has made thorough preparations, and we anticipate a smooth election process,” stated an official from the transport cell at Nagaon Dawson H.S. School.
Nagaon District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia mentioned that the strong room was opened at 6 am, allowing polling parties to collect electronic voting machines (EVMs) and other election materials from two dispatch centres.
“From today, polling parties will depart, and we expect most to leave within two to three hours. We have two dispatch centres - one at Dawson H.S. School and the other at Nagaon Government Boys' H.S. School,” Saikia added.
The administration has also implemented enhanced monitoring measures at critical polling stations.
Saikia noted that critical polling stations in both Nagaon and Morigaon districts will be equipped with CCTV surveillance and live webcasting, enabling officials to monitor the polling process from a control room.
“In the critical polling stations in Nagaon and Morigaon districts, there will be live streaming. CCTV will be in place, and the webcasting can be monitored from the control room,” he explained.
Reports indicate that 624 polling booths across the Lok Sabha constituency have been classified as critical.
Security personnel gathered at school playgrounds before proceeding to their designated deployment areas.
A police officer assigned to Rupahihat mentioned that he traveled from Sonitpur and arrived in Nagaon on Saturday.
“My duty is in Rupahihat. I came from Sonitpur. We arrived here on Saturday and are prepared to go,” he stated.
The Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency has 19,01,899 registered voters across eight Assembly segments in Nagaon and Morigaon districts.
The electorate consists of 9,58,549 male voters, 9,43,300 female voters, and 50 third-gender voters. Additionally, there are 10,782 D-voters in the constituency.
At the field level, the administration has deployed 203 sector officers and 53 zonal officers to oversee the polling arrangements.
Moreover, 54 micro observers have been assigned in Nagaon district to monitor the operations of sensitive polling stations on election day.
With polling set for Tuesday, the district administration has successfully completed the movement of election personnel, EVMs, and other materials to ensure timely polling across the constituency.
