Congress Forms Special Teams for Secure Vote Counting in Assam

In preparation for the vote counting on May 4, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has set up seven special teams to ensure security and prevent irregularities. Following a record voter turnout of 85.96% in the recent assembly elections, these teams will inspect strongrooms and coordinate with district administrations across various regions of Assam. Key leaders have been assigned to oversee specific districts, ensuring a thorough and secure counting process. This initiative highlights the party's commitment to maintaining electoral integrity and transparency.

Guwahati, Apr 24: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has established seven specialized teams to guarantee security protocols are followed during the vote counting scheduled for May 4.


After consultations between AICC general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh and APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, these teams were formed to monitor various districts in preparation for the assembly election vote counting, as stated in a party announcement on Thursday.


According to the Election Commission, a remarkable 85.96 percent of Assam's 2.50 crore voters participated in the assembly elections held on April 9.


The teams are tasked with inspecting the 'strongrooms', engaging with party candidates, and coordinating with district administrations starting April 25.


In Upper Assam, the team includes opposition leader Debabrata Saikia, Raju Sahu, Utpal Gogoi, Rajkumar Nilanetra Neog, David Phukan, and Mrityunjay Duwarah, who will visit Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat districts.


For the North Bank districts, former Rajya Sabha president Ripun Bora, Ghana Burhagohain, J P Das, Shailen Sonowal, Kartik Kurmi, Shankar Kutum, Meghanath Chettri, and Bipul Bora have been assigned responsibilities.


In Central Assam and the hill districts, the team consists of Shibamani Bora, Diganta Barman, Satyabrata Kalita, Mira Borthakur Goswami, Swapan Kar, Mrinal Hazarika, Akram Hussain, Nirmal Langthasa, Ratan Engti, Augustine Enghi, Ashok Teron, Pallav Chetia, and Charlanki Engti, covering Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Nalbari, as well as Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao districts.


In Lower Assam, Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain, Pradip Sarkar, A K Rashid Alam, Deep Bayan, Gajendra Upamanyu, Arun Tiwari, and Mustafa Khaddam Hussain have been designated to visit Barpeta, Bongaigaon, South Salmara-Mankachar, Dhubri, Goalpara, and Bajali districts, as per the release.


In the Barak Valley, Ajit Singh, Abhijit Paul, Aminul Islam, Biswajit Ghosh, Badrul Borbhuyan, Papon Dev, Pradip Gowala, and Hussain Ahmed Choudhury will undertake their responsibilities.


For the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), the team includes Mehedi Alam Bora, Buddhadev Phandanggari, Chohen Brahma, Bhabanath Nath, Stephen Lakra, Umesh Deka, Dipak Kalita, and Satya Nath Kalita.
