Celebrating Zubeen Garg: A Week of Tribute in Assam

Guwahati, Sept 13: The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) is set to commemorate the legacy of Zubeen Garg with a week-long event named ‘Zubeen Week’ from September 13 to 19. This initiative will include activities such as planting one lakh saplings, blood donation drives, and celebrations of literature and music.
The purpose of this initiative is to instill Zubeen Garg's values, love for nature, and humanitarian spirit in the youth of Assam.
AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi emphasized that Zubeen Garg was a beloved figure who had a profound connection with the cultural and social fabric of Assam. He stated, “To truly honor Zubeen Garg, we must not only remember him but also propagate his ideals and humanitarian principles within our society.”
The observance will kick off on Sunday with ‘Nahor Day’, where the party aims to plant one lakh saplings throughout Assam via its local committees.
On September 14, ‘Manuhe Manuhor Babe’ or ‘Humanity Day’ will be marked with blood donation camps across the state, aiming for 101 donors in each district.
September 15 will be designated as ‘Book Day’, featuring discussions with local authors and readers, along with initiatives to promote reading and literary engagement. Public events titled ‘Janatar Zubeen’ will take place on September 16 at various levels including districts and panchayats.
A youth-focused event named ‘Amar Zubeenda’ is scheduled for September 17, where ten young speakers will explore Zubeen’s contributions to music, poetry, and his vision for a harmonious society. This program will also include a collective performance of Mayabini by 100 artists, renditions of Zubeen’s songs in various ethnic languages, poetry readings, and live art.
AJP general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan remarked that this observance aims to link various facets of Zubeen’s life with contemporary society. He added, “Our commitment to realizing the Assam of Zubeen’s dreams will inspire this initiative.”
September 18 will be recognized as ‘National Resolve Day’ under the theme ‘Zubeen’s Assam: From Melody to Resolve’, during which a national cultural charter of demands will be established.
The week will culminate on September 19 with ‘Zubeen Day’. AJP central committee members will visit Zubeen Kshetra to pay their respects, joined by party workers from various districts. In the evening, lamps will be lit at the party headquarters in Guwahati, followed by a moment of silence and a performance of Mayabini. Similar events will be held across all districts.
