Cachar Assembly Polls Witness High Voter Turnout Amid Peaceful Voting

Silchar, Apr 9: The polling process across the seven Assembly constituencies in Cachar wrapped up at 5 pm on Thursday, characterized by a largely peaceful atmosphere. Many polling stations reported long lines of voters eager to cast their votes right up until closing time.


As per the Election Commission of India (ECINet) data, the district achieved an impressive voter turnout of 82.19%, showcasing strong electoral engagement and public participation throughout the day.


While there were a few minor and temporary issues with some Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), no significant disruptions or law enforcement challenges were noted.


The day saw a consistent increase in voter turnout from morning until evening, despite the cloudy weather.


During the early hours (9 am to 11 am), voter participation surged, with Katigorah leading at 20.05%, followed closely by Silchar at 16.41%.


By midday (11 am to 1 pm), several constituencies had surpassed the halfway mark, with Katigorah reaching 62.83% and Silchar exceeding 53%.


The afternoon period (1 pm to 3 pm) experienced the most significant increase in voter turnout, with Katigorah climbing to 78.93%, Lakhipur at 74.37%, and Sonai at 74.33%.


Constituencies like Udharbond and Dholai, which initially had lower turnout figures, also exceeded the 71% mark by mid-afternoon.


At the end of polling at 5 pm, Katigorah recorded the highest turnout at 86.37%, followed by Borkhola at 83.96% and Lakhipur at 83.70%. Silchar concluded with a turnout of 79.97%, while Dholai stood at 78.55%.


Reports indicate that even after the official closing time, numerous voters remained in line at various booths, reflecting strong last-minute participation.


This could potentially result in a slight increase in the final turnout figures once all votes are tallied.


In summary, the polling in Cachar was characterized by high voter enthusiasm, a steady increase in turnout, and the absence of major law and order issues, highlighting effective security measures and election management throughout the district.
