Guwahati/Cachar, Oct 14: The Assam branch of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) conducted rallies in Guwahati, Silchar, and Jorhat on Wednesday as part of a statewide initiative to raise awareness, endorsing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
In Guwahati, a rally named “Jana Jagaran Samadal” was led by state party president Dilip Saikia, starting from Khanapara.
Participants expressed their support for the SIR initiative and accused the Congress and other opposition parties of undermining democratic institutions.
Saikia claimed that the protests against the Election Commission of India (ECI) were indicative of a broader conspiracy aimed at inciting unrest in the nation.
“The Congress and other factions have alleged that approximately 13 crore voters have been removed during the SIR process. This is a completely misleading narrative they are trying to propagate,” Saikia stated.

He further alleged that the electoral rolls included names of deceased individuals and foreigners, while the ECI had failed to verify the details of nearly one crore previously registered voters.
Minister Biswajit Daimary remarked that the accusations against the electoral system were tantamount to questioning the BJP-led administration. He emphasized that India has experienced remarkable development and stability under Modi’s governance.
“If they suspect any irregularities, they should have lodged formal complaints. Instead, they are disrupting the nation’s peace,” Daimary criticized the opposition's tactics.
MLA Diplu Ranjan Sarma accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of acting against national interests, alleging that the protests had foreign support, although he did not provide any evidence.
“We are not here to defend Gyanesh Kumar, but we stand with the system. We need SIR, a foreigner-free India, and economic progress,” Sarma asserted.
In Silchar, thousands joined a rally organized by the BJP’s Cachar district unit on Tuesday. Key figures present included Minister Kaushik Rai, Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Rajya Sabha MPs Kanad Purkayastha and Sushmita Dev, along with Silchar MLA Rajdeep Roy.

Leaders emphasized the need for national unity and accused those opposed to India’s interests of attempting to destabilize the nation.
Rai stated that the turnout demonstrated the public's commitment to protecting national interests, while Dev characterized the event as a means to uphold Modi’s vision and counter what she referred to as “anarchist forces.”
A similar rally took place in Jorhat on Wednesday, where BJP leaders expressed their support for Modi and advocated for electoral roll revision while condemning protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The party also organized a rally in Nalbari on Tuesday.
This mobilization followed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s announcement on Monday regarding the BJP's plan to conduct peaceful rallies at district headquarters throughout Assam from October 13 to 31.
Sarma accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of trying to exert pressure on constitutional institutions and described the opposition's campaign as an attempt to instigate regime change without public backing.
