Assam Police Raids Congress Leader's Home Amid Controversy

Tensions escalate in Assam as police raid Congress leader Pawan Khera's residence in Delhi, following allegations made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife regarding passport fraud. The political landscape is heating up with accusations flying between party leaders, raising questions about the integrity of the upcoming elections. Khera's claims of foreign property ownership have been met with strong denials from Sarma and his wife, leading to a complex web of political intrigue. This unfolding drama is capturing the attention of the public as the political rivalry intensifies.

Police Action Against Pawan Khera

On Tuesday, Assam police conducted a raid at the residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera in Delhi. This action follows an FIR filed by Riniki Bhuiyan, the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who alleged that Khera made false claims regarding her holding passports from three Muslim countries.

The raid took place at Khera's home located in the Nizamuddin area of Delhi, but he was not present at the time. Local police in Delhi assisted the Assam police during the operation. Chief Minister Sarma claimed that Khera had fled the scene.

What Sparked the Dispute?

The Congress party held press conferences in both Delhi and Guwahati on Sunday, where Khera and Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi accused Riniki Bhuiyan of possessing passports from the UAE, Egypt, and Antigua and Barbuda.

Khera further alleged that he owns property in Dubai and has a business in Wyoming, USA. In response, Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed these allegations as baseless, asserting that the Congress party had obtained fake documents from a social media group linked to Pakistan.

Sarma's Defense

Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that discussions about the Assam elections were taking place on Pakistani television channels, suggesting a serious conspiracy at play. He emphasized that such allegations, especially close to elections, are not merely defamatory but could be part of a plot to influence the election, which could lead to severe legal consequences.

Riniki Bhuiyan's Response

In her defense, Riniki Bhuiyan stated on Monday, 'Neither I, nor my children, nor my husband own any property or business in Dubai or abroad.' She challenged Gaurav Gogoi to clarify whether his wife ever had a bank account in Pakistan.

This controversy has intensified political tensions in Assam, with the focus now shifting to the rivalry involving Himanta Biswa Sarma, Riniki Bhuiyan, and Gaurav Gogoi's wife, Elizabeth.
