Silchar, Sept 29: Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to visit Barak Valley on Wednesday, where he will conduct an administrative review of development initiatives and hold a public rally in Silchar, coinciding with the upcoming municipal elections on October 3.

This marks Sarma's inaugural visit to Barak Valley since he was sworn in for a second term on May 12.

As per Cabinet Minister Kaushik Rai, the Chief Minister will kick off his agenda at the Assam Secretariat in Barak Valley, where he will assess the progress of various development projects in the districts of Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi.

Additionally, Sarma will engage with local residents who have requested appointments through his office, allowing them to voice their concerns and present their demands directly to him.

The Assam Secretariat in Barak Valley, which opened on March 14 this year, aims to enhance governance and coordination among the three districts.

Later in the afternoon, Sarma is expected to speak at a public rally at the Police Parade Ground in Silchar at 4 pm. This rally is part of the BJP's campaign for the Silchar Municipal Corporation elections.

The BJP has already unveiled its development-oriented manifesto, known as the “Sankalp Patra,” for the municipal elections.

Sarma's visit is part of ongoing efforts to bolster the administrative framework in Barak Valley, with recent reviews focusing on significant infrastructure and connectivity projects.

These projects include the Silchar-Barapani Express Highway, Bharatmala and Asom Mala roads, as well as the Silchar-Churaibari and Kalain-Silchar roads, along with the Karimganj bypass-Sutarkandi corridor.
