Guwahati, May 4: Following an impressive voter turnout of 85.96%, the counting of votes across 40 centers in 35 districts in Assam is scheduled to commence at 8 am on Monday. This marks a pivotal moment in determining the electoral fate of 722 candidates.

The competition for power in Assam has reached a critical juncture, with the results poised to reveal whether the BJP-led NDA will achieve a third consecutive term or if the Congress-led opposition will stage a comeback.

Counting will take place at 40 designated centers, with Nagaon hosting three centers, while Kokrajhar, Tinsukia, and Jorhat will each have two.

Security arrangements include the deployment of 25 companies from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to safeguard strongrooms and counting locations, along with 800 unarmed personnel for the movement of EVMs. Additionally, two extra CAPF units will be on static duty, supported by 93 state armed police companies and 85 Assault Groups on standby.
