Akhil Gogoi Predicts Opposition Victory Amid EVM Tampering Allegations

As the vote counting approaches, Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi asserts that the Opposition could triumph if the electoral process remains untainted. He alleges that the BJP is attempting to manipulate Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with the help of experts from various states. With contrasting views on the election's integrity and outcomes, the political landscape is charged as results loom.

Guwahati, Apr 12: As the counting of votes is set to commence, Akhil Gogoi, the leader of Raijor Dal, has expressed confidence that the Opposition will seize power if the electoral process is conducted transparently.

Gogoi stated, “Let me be clear - if there is no interference with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the Opposition will undoubtedly form the government this time.”

He further accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to manipulate the voting machines.

“We have received information that the BJP has enlisted experts from Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi. They are allegedly trying to hack the EVMs stored in strong rooms to alter the public's mandate,” he claimed.

The candidate from Sivasagar urged his fellow Opposition members to maintain vigilant oversight of the strong rooms housing the EVMs.

In contrast, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence in the BJP's chances, asserting that the party would comfortably retain power.

“The outcome in Assam will be favorable. There are no concerns. The BJP government will continue smoothly,” Sarma remarked during a visit to Rajasthan on April 11.

He also conveyed optimism regarding the BJP's performance in West Bengal, predicting that the party would establish a government there as well.

Following the polling on April 9, Sarma had anticipated a strong performance for the NDA in Assam, forecasting that the alliance would secure over 90 seats in the 126-member Assembly.

“This time, voters have shown remarkable enthusiasm. The turnout across various communities has been very promising, and the NDA is expected to win more than 90 seats. Surpassing the 100-seat mark would not be unexpected,” he stated.

He also suggested that the Opposition might struggle, indicating that the AIUDF could win only a few seats, while Congress is likely to remain under the 20-seat threshold.
