AIMIM Breaks Alliance with AJUP Ahead of West Bengal Elections

In a surprising turn of events, AIMIM has severed its alliance with AJUP just before the West Bengal Assembly elections. This decision follows serious allegations against Humayun Kabir, the leader of AJUP, regarding his alleged connections with the BJP. AIMIM has declared its intention to contest the elections independently, emphasizing the need for a distinct political voice for marginalized communities. Meanwhile, Kabir has dismissed the allegations as baseless and claims strong support from the electorate. The political landscape in Bengal is heating up as the election dates approach.

Major Political Shift in West Bengal

A significant development has emerged just before the voting for the West Bengal Assembly elections. The alliance between the Aam Janta Unnayan Party (AJUP) and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has collapsed. This announcement was made by AIMIM on Friday, declaring their intention to contest the elections independently in Bengal. This follows allegations against Humayun Kabir, suggesting he received ₹1,000 crores from the BJP to oppose the TMC, causing a stir in the state's political landscape.

AIMIM's Stance on the Alliance

In distancing itself from Humayun's party, AIMIM stated, 'Humayun Kabir's revelations have highlighted the vulnerabilities of Muslims in Bengal. AIMIM cannot associate with any statements that question the integrity of Muslims. Effective immediately, we are severing our alliance with Kabir's party.'

AIMIM to Contest Independently

The party further emphasized, 'Muslims in Bengal are among the most impoverished and marginalized communities. Despite decades of secular governance, little has been done for them. AIMIM's policy for contesting elections in any state is to ensure that marginalized communities have their own independent political voice. We will contest the Bengal elections independently and will not form alliances with any other party.'

Humayun Kabir's Response

In response to the allegations regarding his supposed ties with the BJP, Humayun Kabir dismissed them as absurd. Speaking in Murshidabad, he questioned, 'What kind of ridiculous claim is this? Is the Prime Minister of India really so weak that he would give ₹1,000 crores to Humayun Kabir? Do you think everyone is foolish? While Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee may be out of their minds, I am not.' He asserted that the people of Bengal stand with him and will vote for his party.

Allegations Against Humayun Kabir

A video featuring Humayun Kabir has gone viral on social media, allegedly discussing a ₹1,000 crore deal with the BJP. In the video, he can be heard stating the need to remove Mamata Banerjee from power at any cost. However, Kabir has claimed that the video is AI-generated and has promised to take action after the elections.

TMC's Accusations Against Kabir

The Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has consistently accused Humayun Kabir of conspiring with the BJP to announce the construction of a Babri Masjid in the state and contest elections in collusion with them. TMC has alleged that in the video, Kabir claims that the BJP provided him with ₹1,000 crores to mislead the minority community. He also mentioned that senior BJP leaders like Himanta Biswa Sarma and Mohan Yadav, as well as the Prime Minister's Office, are involved in this conspiracy.

Election Details

Humayun Kabir's party was previously in an alliance with AIMIM, contesting 118 seats in West Bengal. It is important to note that voting in Bengal will occur in two phases, with the first phase on April 23 and the second on April 29. The election results are expected to be announced on May 4.
