WhatsApp Experiences Widespread Issues

New Delhi: Users of WhatsApp, which is backed by Meta, reported significant issues with the messaging service on Monday, affecting the ability to share various media types such as photos, videos, stickers, and GIFs across multiple countries.

Reports of the outage began surfacing early Monday morning, as noted by Downdetector, a platform that tracks service disruptions.

The data revealed that 41% of the complaints were related to messaging, while 40% pertained to the app itself, and 13% involved notification issues.

Although some users could still send text messages, they encountered delays or failures when trying to upload multimedia content.

Many users reported being able to send and receive text messages but struggled with uploading images and videos in their chats.

In certain instances, images would appear in conversations but would remain stuck during the upload process, with others seeing loading icons or prompts to retry.

Stickers and GIFs were also impacted, leading users to suspect that the disruption was specifically tied to WhatsApp's multimedia functionalities.

For some, larger media files either failed to upload or faced considerable delays.

The issues were reported in various countries, including India, the UK, France, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Spain, and Colombia, suggesting that the disruption was widespread.

The geographic distribution of complaints indicated that the problem was likely not confined to a specific network or device issue. However, the full extent of the disruption and the total number of affected users remained unclear.

In response, users attempted standard troubleshooting steps, such as restarting their devices, toggling between Wi-Fi and mobile data, and reinstalling the app. Many reported that these measures did not resolve the issues, especially when trying to send photos and videos.

Additionally, Downdetector noted that WhatsApp had experienced service issues the previous day. As of now, WhatsApp has not released any official statement regarding the reported disruptions.
